How Old are you?
24
Where were you born?
Sydney
Where/how did you get involved in the Club Scene and/or DJing?
The first time I DJed was at a friend's party in high school.
I used to record this dance music show off the radio called "Madhouse".
Then I'd edit out the talking and just play to people all the tracks I
liked. However, I didn't get into DJing seriously until about three years ago.
What clubs/activities are you invloved with at the moment?
Lot's of DJing work in clubs and parties, radio work at 2SER
(1 til 2:30pm on Thursday afternoon 107.3FM) and playing host at Transfusion..
Just like the guy on Sale of The Century.
What kind of music do you like to play and why?
I like playing house because I like dancing to house
What do you think in important when playimg to a crowd?
I think it's important to play a colourful set, meaning that there must
be variation that flows well together, from one sound into the next.
There must be highs, lows, vocals, non-vocals, trance noises, Latin sounds,
breakbeats, acid and disco, a good set must sound vibrant...
just like all the variety on Sydney radio NOT!
What makes you good at what you do
Having a fantastic girlfriend, Loving music,
working with other music enthusiasts like John Ferris,
who is a champion.. as well as receiving help from DJ Robert Racic.
What do you like and dislike about the job you do?
I like playing music to an appreciative audience. I hate carrying around
record boxes and it's no fun having to do gigs you don't want to do
in order to make a living.
What have been the highlights of your career so far?
Either achiving or maintaining constant audiences at Kinselas and Sugareef.
And DJing at quality one-off nights like Vertigo, Apache, Juicy, Tease,
Happy Valley, Bump, Spunk 'n' Funk and Rising High.
The Low points?
Not getting paid at this awful gig in Manly a long time ago with DJ Jade and
dealing with some record shop assistants who seem to have a lot of attitude.
What's the funniest/most imbarrasing night that has ever happened to
you while DJing?
Some dork quite seriously came up to me at the Bentley and asked
me to play "We Built this City On Rock n Roll" by Starship. After
I refused he then requested Van Halen, which again I just forgot to
bring. He then kindly wrote me a note listing all the things a DJ
shouldn't do. Gee, thanks mate.
What advice would you give someone starting out in the industry?
There's no point in DJing unless you really enjoy playing music to people.
Also be prepared to deal with lots of silly people who don't know anything
about music. You must make it happen, and then you must always, always,
play the best new dance music possible.
Is DJing the career move of the ninetees?
It is, if you love music. The best thing is that dancing is seemingly
more popular noe than it has ever been in Australia. So there are
avenues for DJs in record companies, record shops, promoting and
production. Hopefully it's going to turn into an industry like
it is in England and Europe.
What do you hope to do in the future?
Just own my own planet and get some DJing work overseas.
